[ she switches to the camera function and there is a brief shot of a close up of her red glasses, before she fumbles with the communicator and points it in the direction of her hive.

Of course, the camera is slightly tilted and only half of it can really be seen, but half of it is enough to see how much of a disaster it is. The tree is indeed tall and graced with enough branches to support a rather large baseboard, with steps leading up to it. However, it doesn't look at all secure... She had started to erect the walls around it, but it didn't look like they were ready to stay up, or the windows were very safe either.

It's a death trap, hanging right over Karkat's house... ]

Humans are not the only race. On my home world, most humanoid races have caregivers they call parents.

If yours are not tall, fleshy, or pink, what exactly does a lusus look like?

[ She pauses though, in an attempt to explain it, which isn't really something she's had to do to a total stranger. Especially one that doesn't understand troll culture. ]

A lusus is like...a guardian. Your lusus picks you when you're a grub, and then raises you. Mine was a dragon.
